The road to a JS stamp

One of the things I have dedicated time to is the process of getting my ABS Journeyman Smith rating.  Part of the process for that entails putting a forged blade through a series of performance tests in front of a ABS Master smith.  Naturally getting ready for such an event involves practice; so forge a knife test it, repeat until it all works.  I’ve had a couple failures one made it almost all the way through the tests but broke at right near 90 degrees in the bend test.   Here is a video of my latest practice blade with captions that explains what is required.

I hope to see you there. Are you going to wear the kilt? Is there anyone else from our class still making knives?

It would be good to see you at blade. I haven’t decided if I am taking the kilt or not. AS to if anybody else from the class is still making knives, I haven’t got a clue. You are the only person from the class I managed to stay in touch with .

Mel Johns/buzz the guy with the winny the poo hat and Rob Weber got there JS stamps already. But other than that, I can’t think of anyone else still in it. The guy from New York got into to resale of knives but then he disappeared.
