One of the things I have dedicated time to is the process of getting my ABS Journeyman Smith rating. Part of the process for that entails putting a forged blade through a series of performance tests in front of a ABS Master smith. Naturally getting ready for such an event involves practice; so forge a knife test it, repeat until it all works. I’ve had a couple failures one made it almost all the way through the tests but broke at right near 90 degrees in the bend test. Instagram Feed:Swapped the leather belts for 3/8inch round polyurethane belting (85 Shore A durometer). Result: cleaner smoother cuts with better feedback to the drive handle. In other words less slipping in the drive system. Some of you might notice that the leather belts were twisted and these are not. The reason for putting a twist in the leather belts is to increase angular contact with the pulley and thus friction and the poly belts don't need that.
